Canine Body Language

A two-part webinar with Sue Sternberg, Thursday, July 9 & 23, 7 - 8:30 pm EDST

Body Language Part 1: What Does “Friendly” Look Like?

What does it mean when we call a dog “friendly”? What, exactly, does “friendliness” look like to humans and to other dogs? Is “friendly “ a way to describe a relaxed greeting? Is “friendly” an action, or a state of mind, or is it a fleeting state or a permanent description? In this webinar, through extensive video footage, Sue Sternberg will explore and define “friendliness” in dogs, both as it applies to humans and also to other dogs.

Body Language Part 2: How to Tell A Dog is Going to Bite, Before He Actually Bites

Sometimes a bite seems to come “out of the blue,” with what seems like no warning. Whether it’s biting another dog or biting a person, in reality dogs give many clues that they are feeling more and more like biting. In this webinar Sue Sternberg will detail, through extensive video footage, the many signs that a dog is getting ready to bite—whether it’s a person or another dog.

Sue is inviting participants to submit short video clips (30 seconds) for analysis for either Part 1 or Part 2 of this series. If you want to submit what you believe friendly (or unfriendly) looks like in your dog, of if you happen to catch a dog just before he bites, please submit his YouTube or Dropbox link, or email to: Suesternberg@icloud.com at least two weeks prior to the webinar date. Submission of video does not guarantee that it will be used in the webinar.
